Background

Ngati Porou Hauora (NPH) is the only health provider in the East Coast area north of Gisborne city. The range of services delivered include; Primary Health Care, Hospital Services and Mental Health Services.

Current services on the coast are delivered through 6 clinics and Te Puia Hospital with 1 additional clinic in Gisborne.  Te Whanau a Iwi clinic in Gisborne was merged with the Puhi Kaiti Clinic in May 2012.  In addition, NPH is involved in a range of research projects in partnership with other organisations to inform and contribute to the strategic priorities.

Significant changes have been undertaken during the last year including implementation of a new financial management system “Xero”, continually reviewing our expenses in order to gain efficiencies.  The merging of the two Gisborne Clinics, the review of our Information Technology Systems, including replacement of servers, utilising cloud technology, implementing cost effective mobile phone systems, upgrade of our Web site and introduction of a Intranet system, review of our fleet management to name a few.

The most urgent issues have or are being addressed while the other significant challenges are part of an ongoing work programme described below in “operational activity and developmental issues”.
