Our focus is on health and disability care for everyone within the Ngati Porou rohe, covering some 200 km of the East Coast of the North Island from Potikirua near Hicks Bay in the north to Te Toka-a-Taiau, Gisborne, in the south. Although owned and governed by Ngati Porou, our organisation offers services to all within the Tairawhiti region, as a ‘by Maori, for all’ service.
Health and disability services we provide include general practice consultations, maternity, mental health, quit smoking, immunisation, cervical smears, physiotherapy, dental health and diabetes care. Talk to your nurse or doctor about any of the services offered.
Ngati Porou Home Based Support Services offers a range of support provided to you in your own home.
Ngati Porou Hauora’s Dental Health Service has two locum dentists, a dental therapist/hygienist, and one dental surgery assistant. The team offers low cost dental treatment for adults, adolescents and children on the Coast.
A physiotherapist or physio helps you get active and strong again if you have a health issue or disability that affects your body's functions or makes it hard for you to move around freely. They also help you prevent injuries and illnesses.
Ngati Porou Hauora’s resident midwife Corrina Parata delivers about 30 babies from the Coast a year, providing care at Te Puia Hospital and Gisborne Hospital. You can choose Corrina to be your Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) to provide and coordinate your maternity care.
The research vision of Ngati Porou Hauora is to be a tikanga and research based centre of excellence for Hauora Maori.
