Ngati Porou Hauora’s resident midwife Corrina Parata delivers about 30 babies from the Coast a year, providing care at Te Puia Hospital and Gisborne Hospital. You can choose Corrina to be your Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) to provide and coordinate your maternity care.

Corrina will provide maternity care - supporting you through your pregnancy, labour and the first 6 weeks of your baby's life.

As a midwife she is qualified to care for you in normal pregnancy and birth but should the need arise she can refer to an obstetrician specialist.

Corrina does home visits between Tolaga Bay and Hicks Bay, and is a trained vaccinator.

Maternity care is free. Staying in Te Puia Hospital or Gisborne Hospital is also free. Referral to an obstetrician by the midwife for expert advice or secondary care (complications in pregnancy, birth or postnatal period) is free too.
